2013 Golden Globe Nominations

Hello World,

So for those of you who don't already know this, it is Award season. A magical time of the year where some of the best films of the year are over looked by the Academy and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association  (cough* Drive cough* The Grey), and instead the most depressing and darkest explorations of the human condition wins best picture. So with that being said, why keeping reading? Certainly Les Miserables will win Best Picture right?

Well last year was an awesome year for film and television, and there is still reason to believe that they simply won't slap the best picture award on the first black and white silent film to come out in years. Now before I begin to berate The Artist, I would like to point out I loved this film... however there were other films that came out during the year that far surpassed this one in particular (i.e. Drive, The Descendants, The Ides of March and 50/50).

In any case, due to the high standard of films to come out this year, whoever will win a Golden Globe or Oscar will definitely deserve it. And if you do not agree well there is always the internet to voice your anger and rage. Okay, well here are my Golden Globe picks for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards:

Best Motion Picture - Drama: Zero Dark Thirty

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama: Helen Mirren, Hitchcock

So there you have it guys, do what you will with it, I have picked the main awards that will announced at the 2013 Golden Globes Awards. Also before you go nuts at me for picking some of the choices, I would like to point out that these choices are the ones that I believe that are truly going to win and do not reflect whether or not I actually like them (i.e. Brave).

Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2013

Hello again,

This time I thought I would do the whole shebang and write about my most anticipated TV Shows and Animes/Mangas (Will be bringing that out soon) of the year, so while attempt to cook a steak and watch TV I am going to discuss with you guys my most anticipated TV shows of 2013.

In comparison to the Most Anticipated Films of 201 post that I put up earlier, I will be giving a brief in depth discussion on what I will be expecting from each show and why I (and hopefully you guys are as well) I will be highly anticipating these shows this year.

1. Breaking Bad Season 5 (Created by Vince Gilligan, Starring Ryan Cranston & Aaron Paul)
Well what can I say, this show should be at the top of everyone's list. The second half of the fifth and final season has been much anticipated ever since the major reveal at the end of the first half of season 5. In retrospect saying that this season has been much anticipated is a huge understatement. For all those who have not seen the ending of the last season, I'll try not to spoil anything, however if you love breaking bad this scene will have you on your knees begging for more. Altogether, hopefully Gilligan will cut loose and won't keep developing the characters, that has slowed the show to a halt at times. In essence I can't wait for the first episode to be aired in July, this is unfortunately the last season of one of the greatest shows of all time, so there is much to be excited about.

2. Game of Thrones Season 3 (Created by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss, Starring Peter Dinklage & Jack Gleeson)
Coming in at number 2 is the third season of the HBO series Game of Thrones. Being a massive fan of the book series and the show I was a little disappointed at the direction that the show took in season 2. It may have just been me, however after each episode I felt bored and in comparison to the book, it almost felt as though nothing really much happened in terms of character plot development (well... there was a kick ass war at the end). However, despite my disappointment the writers of the show took a darker turn last year and there was much to look forward towards the end of the season.

3. Mad Men Season 6 (Created by Matthew Weiner, Starring John Hamm, John Slattery & Christina Hendricks)
Over the last year I caught up on one of the most stylish shows on Television, although some may argue that Mad Men is simply style over substance, season 5 showed us what this show can do when they further delve into the lives of the other more interesting side characters, like Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser), Joan Harris (Christina Hendricks) and Lane Pryce (Jared Harris). Overall, I can't wait for season 6 to be released
and hopefully we will see a continuation of consistency that was prevalent in Season 5.

Well at the moment I have three TV shows that I am really excited about. I also have some special/ honorable mentions (mostly because I need to catch up on these shows) that I think you guys should check out:

1. Key & Peele
2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
3. Archer
4. Community
5. Broadwalk Empire
6. Homeland
7. Parks & Recreation
8. Walking Dead

Thanks again for reading, I will soon be bringing out a few audio reviews for films that I will soon be seeing.

As always if you would like to contact me you can find me on Twitter, Google Plus and if not, well then sucks for you ! Hahaha I'm just kidding, you can also just email me at scott.jolly94@gmail.com

Most Anticipated Films of 2013

Hello World,

Seeing as though we have just entered into the New Year I think it would be best to talk about some of my most anticipated films of 2013.

With the large number of great films (hoping to God that they are good films) that are to come out this year, I still wonder whether or not I will be as greatly disappointed as I was in 2012. Although I am yet to see a majority of the films that are to be nominated for Oscars (Side Note: I Live in Australia, where we tend to get a lot of films late or simply the year after, I know sucks right?!), I was severely let down by Christopher Nolan's final installment of the batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises and Peter Jackson's first installment of the Hobbit trilogy. Being a massive fan of The Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as the Batman films, I found myself wanting more from both of these films and ultimately both films were not able to live up to the high standards I set upon these films.

Despite that I realized that it's not all doom and gloom, Seven Psychopaths and The Avengers were able to live up to my expectations and in comparison to 2011, the year of 2012 in film was simply awesome and I cannot wait for what is in store for this year.

Well if your still reading up to this point then there is something really wrong you ! In any case, here are my Most Anticipated Films of 2013:

1. Pacific Rim (Directed by Guillermo del Toro, Starring Idris Elba & Charlie Hunman)
2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Directed by Peter Jackson, Starring Ian Mckellen & Martin Freeman)
3. A Good Day to Die Hard (Directed by John Moore, Starring Bruce Willis & Jai Courtney)
4. Man of Steel (Directed by Zack Snyder, Starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe & Amy Adams)
5. Star Trek Into Darkness (Directed by J.J. Abrams, Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana & Benedict Cumberbatch)
6. Iron Man 3 (Directed by Shane Black, Starring Robert Downey Jr, Guy Pearce, Gwyneth Paltrow & Don Cheadle)
7. The Lone Ranger (Directed by Gore Verbinski, Starring Johnny Depp & Armie Hammer)

So far I have seven films on my list and I will adding more as we get closer to Oscar Season (October to December, I think, please correct me if I'm wrong).

That's it for me, however, If you would like to contact me and discuss well... anything in relation to Film, TV and Anime you can find me on Twitter, Google Plus and if not you can always send an email to scott.jolly94@gmail.com

Thanks again, and enjoy the New Year for all those in the Northern hemisphere.

Bringing in the New Year

Hello World,

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Gong Xi Fa Cai (Chinese Year is also in February) and congratulations for once again surviving another crackpot theory forecasting the end of the world. My name is Scott Jolly I currently live here in Australia and this is my first blog ever blog post (I know amazing right?). Well, after a drunken discussion on New Years Eve about what I would have done if the world was ending, I finally decided to create a blog where I would talk and review all things in the world of Cinema, TV and even Anime.

So in the coming weeks I will be discussing all the great films that will be coming out this year, The Golden Globes, The Oscars and discuss my top 10 films of 2012.

That's it for now, Thanks for reading and hopefully you will be able to join me in what is to be a great year for Film and Television.
